On Saturday, June 21, 2014 at approximately 2:23 am, police officers responded to a call for a shooting near the intersection of Fuller Street and Mozart Place, NW. Upon arrival, they located Mr. Luis Avila-Melendez in the 1600 block of Columbia Road, NW suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel transported the victim to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
